The Ottawa County Court Clerk's office is at 102 E. Central, Miami, OK 74354. The phone number is (918) 542-2801. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. The office is closed weekends and state holidays. Miami serves as the Ottawa County seat, and the courthouse is where all marriage license applications get processed. Both people who want a marriage license must appear together at the Ottawa County Court Clerk. Each needs a valid photo ID. A driver's license, passport, or military ID is fine. The standard fee across Oklahoma is $50. Couples who bring an original premarital counseling certificate with at least four hours from a qualified provider pay just $5, as spelled out in 43 O.S. 5.1. Only the original works. The clerk hands you the license after you pay and sign.

That license is good for 10 days. Have the ceremony within that time. The officiant and two witnesses who are 18 or older sign the completed form. Then it goes back to the Ottawa County Court Clerk within 5 days. That is the document that gets filed as the official marriage record.

The Oklahoma State Courts Network is the best free way to search Ottawa County marriage records. Select "Ottawa" from the county dropdown, set the case type to "Marriage License," and type in a last name. Results display the case number, both names, and the filing date. No account or payment is needed. The system runs at all hours and works on any device.

OSCN data for Ottawa County goes back to the 1990s. Older records are only at the courthouse in Miami. New filings can take a couple of days to show up, especially in smaller counties. Ottawa County Marriage License Requirements

Marriage license rules in Ottawa County follow Oklahoma state law. You must be 18 or older with valid photo ID. Applicants aged 16 or 17 need parental consent and a certified birth certificate. Under 16 requires a court order. There is no blood test anywhere in Oklahoma. No residency requirement exists for Ottawa County. You can live in Kansas, Missouri, or any other state and still get a license in Miami. But the ceremony must take place in Oklahoma.

No waiting period applies to adults 18 and over. Under-18 applicants face a 72-hour wait unless a judge waives it. If either person got a divorce in Oklahoma within the past six months, they cannot marry anyone new during that period. They can only remarry the former spouse. This restriction applies only to Oklahoma divorces. The Ottawa County clerk checks for this when you submit your application.

Officiants do not pre-register with the court under Title 43, Section 7. The person who performs the ceremony signs the certificate to confirm their authority. Two witnesses age 18 or older are required at the wedding.

Note: Ottawa County borders Kansas and Missouri, so out-of-state couples are welcome since Oklahoma has no residency requirement.

What Ottawa County Marriage Records Show

An Ottawa County marriage record has three parts: the Affidavit on Application with names, ages, and ID details; the Marriage License from the clerk; and the Certificate of Marriage signed by the officiant and witnesses. The certificate is the permanent record on file.

Records typically include both full names, ages at the time, and the ceremony date. Older records may note prior marital status. More recent filings sometimes add birthplace, addresses, and parent names. OSCN shows names and dates but not the certificate image, witness details, or officiant information.
