Woods County Marriage License Rules

Oklahoma applies the same rules in every county. You need to be 18 with a valid photo ID. Applicants who are 16 or 17 need a parent or guardian to sign consent and bring a certified birth certificate. Under 16 requires a court order. No blood test is needed in Woods County or anywhere else in Oklahoma. No residency rule exists. You can come from out of state and get a license in Alva, but the ceremony must happen in Oklahoma.

There is no waiting period for adults. If someone is under 18, a 72-hour hold applies unless a judge waives it. The six-month divorce restriction also applies. If either applicant got divorced in Oklahoma in the last six months, they can only remarry their former spouse. Divorces from other states do not trigger this rule. The clerk verifies this during the application.

Under Title 43, Section 7 of Oklahoma Statutes, ministers do not need to pre-register their credentials with the court. The officiant simply signs the certificate. This change became effective November 1, 2022.

Note: The marriage license must be returned to the Woods County Court Clerk within 5 days after the ceremony takes place.

What Woods County Marriage Records Show

A Woods County marriage record has three parts. The Affidavit on Application is the form completed at the clerk's office with names, ages, and ID information. The Marriage License is the document that authorizes the ceremony. After the wedding, the Certificate of Marriage is signed by the officiant and two witnesses, then returned to the clerk. That certificate is the permanent file.

Records typically include both names, ages, and the ceremony date. Older filings may mention the bride's previous marital status. Later records sometimes show birthplace, address, and parent names. OSCN displays names and the license date but does not include the certificate image, witness names, or the officiant. For complete details, contact the Woods County Court Clerk in Alva directly.
