Woodward County Marriage License Rules

Oklahoma law applies the same rules in all 77 counties. You must be at least 18 with valid ID to apply on your own. If you are 16 or 17, a parent or guardian needs to show up and sign a consent form. They must also bring a certified birth certificate for the minor. Under 16 can only get a license through a court order. No blood test is required. There is no residency requirement. You can live in another state and apply in Woodward County, though the ceremony must happen within Oklahoma.

Adults have no wait at all. Under-18 applicants face a 72-hour hold that only a judge can waive. There is one more thing to know. If either person was divorced in Oklahoma within the past six months, they cannot marry anyone except their former spouse during that period. This rule only covers Oklahoma divorces. The Woodward County Court Clerk checks for this before issuing a license.

Ministers and other officiants no longer need to pre-register with the court. Under Title 43, Section 7, the person performing the ceremony just signs the certificate. This change took effect November 1, 2022.

Note: The completed marriage license must be returned to the Woodward County Court Clerk within 5 days after the ceremony, signed by the officiant and two witnesses who are 18 or older.

What Woodward County Marriage Records Include

Each Woodward County marriage record has three parts. The Affidavit on Application is the form filled out at the clerk's office with names, ages, and ID details. The Marriage License is the document that allows the ceremony to happen. After the wedding, the Certificate of Marriage is signed by the officiant and two witnesses, then returned to the Court Clerk. That certificate is the permanent record on file.

Most records list both names, ages at the time, and the ceremony date. Older filings may note the bride's prior marital status. Later records sometimes include birthplace, home address, and parent names. The OSCN system shows applicant names and the date the license was filed but does not show the certificate image, witness names, or who performed the ceremony. For complete information, contact the Woodward County Court Clerk directly at the courthouse.
